Gruhapravesam (Griha Pravesh) is the ceremony performed before a family first occupies a new home. It purifies the space, invokes Vastu and the deities for protection, prosperity and peace, and marks an auspicious beginning for the household.
How it's performed (vidhi)
- 1Pravesham — Dwara pooja at the entrance, including breaking the gummadikaya (pumpkin) at the threshold for an auspicious first entry into the home.
- 2Ganapati pooja to invoke Lord Ganesha and remove obstacles.
- 3Punyahavachanam to purify the home and the family.
- 4Navagraha pooja to harmonise the nine planets.
